The Little Italy District is located in the hilly northwest section of metro San Diego and exudes the culture and atmosphere of gracious Italian living. Set on the northern shore of the bay, this colorful district is just a few blocks from the Embarcadero. Verdant vegetation surrounding small store fronts and street side cafes will provide you with the ambiance of a delightful Italian village.
Preserved architecture from restored Italian designed buildings, grand sized archways and piazzas, compliment the charm of this district that had a bustling tuna fishing industry in the past. Today’s thriving commercial corridor is India Street with its historic bungalow homes, boutiques and antique shops, cafes and art galleries. The prominent Little Italy Association endeavors to maintain clean sidewalks and parks throughout town as well as economic development while at the same time preserving Italian culture. Little Italy Farmers’ Market, the Mercato, offers shoppers farmed produce, locally baked pastries and fresh fish. Residents of Little Italy District enjoy convenient access to entertainment and Sicilian cuisine which are the highlights of the Festivale Siciliano held each spring.
